Wild Remedies Chaga is hand-harvested in the forest of Siberia by experienced chaga hunters, and collected in a fashion so that the host trees are not harmed. Russian sources state that 1 – 20% of birch trees in Russia show signs of hosting Chaga. An extensive study concluded that Chaga resources in Russia are so immense, that even under the most pessimistic estimates, chaga will likely never be biologically threatened. (source) However, because Chaga's biological properties are being investigated for immunological-enhancing and anti-cancer properties, the world market for Chaga is expanding. As harvesters will need to go deeper into the forest to collect Chaga, the price of the medicinal mushroom could rise substantially.
