Ayurvedic Balancing Water (Pitta, Kapha, and Vata)

Doshas in Ayurveda refer to your unique physical and mental composition, which impact your personal well-being. Each person has their own dominant dosha or combination of two or three of these biological energies found throughout the human body and mind. Knowing yours can help you maintain balance through seasonal changes, for lasting health, and peace of mind.

Pitta governs all heat, metabolism and transformation in the mind and body. It controls how we digest foods, how we metabolize our sensory perceptions, and how we discriminate between right and wrong.

When Pitta is in overdrive, hot burning sensations and fiery emotions arise.

There are several Ayurvedic remedies that can help balance Pitta including:

  • Eating cooling foods like certain fresh greens, and eliminating sharp vinegar-based foods
  • Avoiding hot drinks, yeast bread, aged cheese, red meat, potatoes
  • Reducing your intake of “heating” grains like brown rice and corn, and “warming” vegetables like carrots, beets, spinach, eggplant, onion, and garlic.

In my current imbalanced state, my body has been holding onto water. I’ve been experiencing some limb and stomach swelling. On further investigation, I discovered that there are Ayurvedic methods of preparing water to help the body absorb it more readily – which is helpful for everyone everyday. Hydration is essential for optimal health.


Here’s what I learned about WATER:

  • Regular water takes about 6 hours for the body to absorb if all of your channels are clear.
  • Water that has been boiled for 20 minutes and then cooled takes 3 hours to absorb and helps to open the channels.
  • Warm herbalized water takes about 1.5 hours for the body to absorb + channel opening 🙌

Pitta Balancing Ayurvedic Herbal Water

Ingredients

  • 2 litres of water
  • ¼ tsp fennel seed
  • 2 rose buds
  • 2 cloves

Kapha Balancing Ayurvedic Herbal Water

Ingredients

  • 2 litres of water
  • ¼ tsp fennel seed
  • 3 holy basil leaves
  • Two thin slices of fresh ginger
  • ¼ tsp cumin seed

Vatta Balancing Ayurvedic Herbal Water

Ingredients

• 2 litres of water
• 3 leaves mint
• ½ tsp. fennel seed
• ¼ tsp. marshmallow root


Method (for all 3 waters)

1. Boil water for 20 minutes. Take it off the heat and add spices.

2. Store it hot inside a thermos, but before drinking pour it into a cup and let it cool to room temperature in summer. In winter, it can be slightly warmer.

I also adding a small amount of salt, honey, and lemon juice to add electrolytes. ⚡
